Pilates is a practice and consistency is key. I've been practicing Pilates myself for 40 years and instructing the method for 20 years. Over 20 years, I've seen people come and go, and often return when their nagging back flares up, or they are referred to Pilates by their physiotherapist.
I want to share a few beliefs I have with you:
It doesn't matter how much experience you have. We all have to start somewhere and it is my job to help you learn the Pilates method, right from the beginning. It is very rewarding for me to watch someone's progress unfold and their strength and mobility increase
It doesn't matter whether you decide to take extra challenges that may be offered to you in class or not. All sorts of factors go into this; What activity you did the day or two before, your sleep the previous night, present injuries, or your state of mind. YOU DO YOU!
It doesn't matter what kind of shape you are in. Your size, weight, shape, has nothing to do with how you do in Pilates.
It doesn't matter what you wear to class. As long as you're comfortable to move, you can wear anything you like.
It doesn't matter if you've taken a hiatus from Pilates. You can always return to the practice. Pilates is now a global movement method and you can find a studio, offering privates or group classes, everywhere.
Pilates is not a performance. It is a movement practice focused on core strength and stability, with the goals of maintaining and increasing mobility and moving with ease. Consistency is key to better posture, improved balance/coordination and relief from stress and back pain.
I look forward to seeing you on your MAT,
Christy
